Public Guardian’s Role Purely Objective, Often Misunderstood

I was outraged by your July 8 article concerning the Orange County Public Guardian’s office conducting a legal battle to overrule a trust set up by an elderly Costa Mesa woman.
Quite apart from the expense of a trial and subsequent care of Mrs. Ross when her friend and daughter had promised to look after her, at no cost to Orange County taxpayers, what disturbs me very deeply is the prospect of a distant bureaucracy deciding, against my express wishes, what is best for me.
What comes next? Civil servants initiating proceedings against retirees and their assets because a neighbor reported them as “cranky” and better off in some county facility?
Why make out a will and family trust if City Hall can annul them?
