HEART ISLAND? The recent issue of Buzz magazine profiles Los Angeles architect Jon Jerde, who is designing the first phase of MCA’s Universal CityWalk. He’s also responsible for the redesign a few years back of the Irvine Co.’s Fashion Island in Newport Beach. . . . Says Jerde to Buzz: “I knew that (owner Donald) Bren didn’t want anything that was second-rate. I told him he had two choices. He could either blow up Fashion Island or we could build a heart for that community. We built a heart.”
