Rickey Jackson joined the New Orleans Saints at camp to get started on his 13th season, the first in which he will make $1 million. Jackson’s contract, signed Saturday, reportedly was worth $2.2 million over two years. The Saints also reached agreement with tailback Dalton Hilliard on a one-year contract, terms of which weren’t disclosed. . . . Doctors will examine Denver Bronco rookie offensive lineman Dietrich Lockridge next week to determine whether a spinal nerve bruised in practice is related to a similar injury from high school. Lockridge said he made a novice’s mistake while pass-blocking a linebacker Wednesday in a scrimmage at Greeley, Colo. “I hit him with my head down,” he said. “I know better.” Lockridge, the Broncos’ eighth-round draft pick, couldn’t get up after taking the hit.
Former Minnesota Viking safety Joey Browner plans to be at the Falcons’ training facility in Suwanee, Ga., on Monday for a physical and workout. The Vikings released Browner last week after he failed a physical. The Falcons could be interested in Browner, 32, because of the loss of starting strong safety Brian Jordan to baseball. . . . Detroit Lion first-round pick Robert Porcher, a 6-foot-3, 287-pound defensive end from South Carolina State, agreed to terms and reported to camp Saturday a day late for rookies. Terms weren’t disclosed. . . . Wide receiver Lawyer Tillman is close to signing a contract, but the Cleveland Browns have eight players unsigned, including first-round draft pick Tommy Vardell of Stanford.
Quarterback Randall Cunningham will not play in the Philadelphia Eagles’ exhibition opener next weekend, Coach Rich Kotite said. Cunningham, who is recovering from a knee operation that sidelined him last season, had hoped to play in the Hall of Fame game Saturday against the New York Jets in Canton, Ohio.
