WESTLAKE : Planners Asked to Block Restaurant

About a dozen Westlake residents asked the Thousand Oaks Planning Commission on Monday to reject the proposed conversion of a bank building into a fast-food restaurant.
The commission heard testimony late into the evening on the proposal by Foodmaker Inc. to place a Jack-in-the-Box restaurant in the vacant building in the 500 block of Hampshire Road.
Residents and property owners said the restaurant would aggravate problems with traffic, noise and vandalism in their neighborhood.
The owners of the 494-unit Oak View Apartment Complex near the restaurant turned in a petition signed by 325 area residents.
Although city planners said traffic on Hampshire Road would drown out restaurant noise, Oak View tenant Debbie Forgach said: “It’s so quiet at night you can hear a pin drop.”
City planners recommended approval because the Westlake area has few fast-food restaurants. Many Westlake office workers drive to Thousand Oaks Boulevard for their meals, planners said.
