Pool Supplies Firms to Merge: Leslie’s Poolmart, the nation’s leading specialty retailer of swimming pool supplies, said it has tentatively agreed to buy Sandy’s Pool Supply, a smaller rival, for an undisclosed sum. Sandy’s is half-owned by Phil Leslie, who co-founded Leslie’s Poolmart in 1963 but was ousted as chief executive during a takeover fight in 1988. Leslie’s, based in Chatsworth, operates 130 stores in 26 states, while North Hollywood-based Sandy’s has 20 outlets in four states.
