The Olympics have been a busy time for George Steinbrenner, a vice president of the U.S. Olympic Committee, who learned while he was here that baseball had approved his reinstatement as the head man of the New York Yankees.
But his hectic schedule has nothing to do with baseball. He has vowed to get to every venue, including faraway spots for rowing, soccer and canoeing and kayaking, before he leaves on Tuesday. On most of his visits, Steinbrenner has sat in the VIP box for about 10 minutes, then moved into the stands to cheer.
So far, he has fired no ushers.
This a daily roundup of Olympic-related items from reporters in Barcelona from the Los Angeles Times, Newsday, Baltimore Sun and Hartford Courant, all Times-Mirror newspapers.
