There’s More Than One Way to Tell These Tales

The article, “Scary Ever After” (July 17), reminded me of the time I was relating the story of Cinderella to my niece Jennifer, then 3, for the first time. When I came to the part when the fairy godmother turned the pumpkin into a coach, she suddenly tugged at my arm to stop the narrative. “No, no, no!” she exclaimed. “She needs a nice little car she can drive herself!”
Jennifer thus became her own revisionist and perhaps the country’s youngest feminist!
