Jackie Silva and Angela Rock, playing together for only the second time, won the Coors U.S. Open beach volleyball tournament at Venice Beach. Rock and Silva, seeded third, came out of the losers’ bracket to beat second-seeded Liz Masakayan and Linda Carrillo, 15-11, and then 7-0 in the sudden-death game.
Rock and Silva each earned $6,900 from the $60,000 purse.
Silva, the winningest player in Women’s Professional Volleyball Assn. history with 41 tournament victories, has only one other victory this year. It was at Hermosa Beach June 14 with former partner Cammy Ciarelli, who with Holly McPeak finished third at Venice.
