Two grass fires kept the California Department of Forestry busy Sunday, but neither caused injuries or any structural damage, authorities said.
The first, and larger, fire swept across 30 acres of steep, rocky terrain Sunday afternoon in the Gopher Canyon area north of Escondido before it was contained by fire crews, the CDF said.
The fire started near El Paseo Drive off Gopher Canyon Road, west of Interstate 15, about 2 p.m.
Because of several homes in the area, the CDF called in four air tankers and two helicopters to help stop the fire and said it would be controlled by midnight.
A second fire Sunday afternoon scorched 2 acres near Old Julian Highway in Ramona and was extinguished without incident, the CDF said.
