COUNTYWIDE : County to Aid Local Firms Making Bids

The County Board of Supervisors Tuesday adopted a policy to give preference to local businesses competing to provide the county with materials and services.

Under the new policy, approved by a 4-1 vote, a local company would be given a 1% credit over businesses located outside the county in the event of a tie bid.

The county would not lose any revenue because it receives .75% of sales tax revenue generated in a incorporated city and 1.75% of sales tax revenue generated in unincorporated areas, according to the measure’s sponsor, County Supervisor Susan Golding.

Overall, 77% of the county’s procurement dollars went to businesses located within the county during fiscal 1991-92, according to a report from Chief Administrative Officer David Janssen.
