Rangers Advance in NBC World Series

Tim Barber pitched a four-hitter with five strikeouts to lead the Valley Rangers to a 7-1 victory over the Orange County (Fla.) Twins on Tuesday in the second round of the National Baseball Congress World Series in Wichita, Kan.
Barber (2-0), a submarine-throwing right-hander, struck out five and recorded 16 outs via ground balls in the seven-inning game.
Jim Fifer gave the Rangers all the runs they needed with a two-run double in the first inning. Fifer was two for four with three runs batted in. Joey Arnold added a three-run home run in the fourth inning. Arnold also walked twice and scored three runs.
The Rangers were scheduled to play Midlothian, Ill., in a third-round game late Tuesday.
