Pennsylvania Firm Gains Stake in Gateway

IRVINE — A Pennsylvania company intent on a merger has acquired a 9.9% stake in Gateway Communications Inc., a maker of computer network products, according to a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Adage Inc., which manufactures computer graphics products in West Chester, Pa., has acquired 469,300 common shares in Gateway, the filing said.

Adage purchased the shares “for the general purpose of effecting a merger, acquisition or business combination of some kind,” the filing said. The shares were acquired between April 24 and Aug. 11 for $1.20 to $1.75 each.
