Monterey Park : Do-It-Yourself Stamps
Monterey Park is one of eight cities nationwide chosen as a test site for do-it-yourself postage stamps, beginning later this month.
Self-service machines will allow customers to weigh their letters and parcels, insert their money, and get the right amount of postage.
They will receive a new “postage and mailing center stamp,” which comes in blank rolls upon which the amount of postage is printed when needed, postal spokeswoman Robin Minard said Wednesday. The stamps can be printed for any amount up to $99.99, she said.
The one-year test will begin Aug. 21 at the post office at 245 W. Garvey Ave. The only other California location will be at 2206 Alton Parkway in Irvine.
Other tests will be in Oklahoma City; Detroit; Miami; Washington; Norman, Okla., and Ann Arbor, Mich.
