A Costa Mesa man died Tuesday morning after his automobile struck the rear of a truck stalled on the San Diego Freeway, the California Highway Patrol reported.
Steven D. Williams, 33, died shortly after the 5:20 a.m. accident, said CHP Officer Luaralee Riggs.
The truck driver, 36-year-old Archie Williams of Los Angeles, was working under the hood of the stalled vehicle along the northbound lanes of the freeway near Harbor Boulevard at the time of the collision, the CHP said. He and a passenger, Damien Williams, 18, also of Los Angeles, were taken to Fountain Valley Regional Hospital and Medical Center for cuts and bruises.
Steven Williams was traveling about 60 m.p.h. and apparently did not see the stalled truck in time to stop, the CHP said. The incident is still under investigation.
