Sniper Fire Kills U.N. Peacekeeper

SARAJEVO, Bosnia-Herzegovina — A Ukrainian U.N. peacekeeper was killed by sniper fire in Sarajevo on Thursday. Shells landed near the airport as it reopened after a two-day closure, and a nighttime bombardment struck the main hospital and set the Parliament building on fire.
The night attack was described as the heaviest in a month.
The Ukrainian soldier, whose name and age were not disclosed, was standing in the courtyard of the Marshal Tito barracks, which houses the Ukrainian contingent of the 1,500-strong peacekeeping force, a U.N. military officer said.
He was the second peacekeeper to die in Bosnia. Another Ukrainian died of injuries suffered in an Aug. 1 mortar attack.
