Nation IN BRIEF : MONTANA : Snow, Record Cold Cut Summer Short

Arctic air that brought as much as a foot of snow into the northern part of Montana interrupted summer and threatened wheat and barley crops. Great Falls, Mont., reached just 37 degrees, its coldest summer temperature on record, the National Weather Service said. The previous record was 39 degrees, established in June, 1950. About six inches of snow blocked Going-to-the-Sun Highway across Glacier National Park, officials said. More snow was forecast as moisture from the Southwest continued to run into Arctic air over the region.
