POST-TENURE HEILBRUN

Why devote so much space to a woman who professes feminism but gives up the fight? Heilbrun urges women “to use our security, our seniority to take risks, make noise, be courageous, become unpopular”--then turns around and calls it quits at Columbia because of some adversity.
What’s it gonna be, Carolyn? Feminism or a facade?
Change requires the presence of women in historically male-dominated positions. That in itself affects some change. I hope that other women of Heilbrun’s generation provide better role models for us younger women who seek a more equal world.
