Police have arrested three men and a juvenile suspected in the fatal shooting Sunday night of a 19-year-old man who got into a confrontation with them in the parking lot of a fast-food restaurant.
Ivan Ulises Torres-Carrillo of Costa Mesa was shot in the head. He was taken to Hoag Hospital in Newport Beach, where he died shortly afterward.
The incident started about 9:30 p.m., Costa Mesa Police Lt. Dennis Cost said, when several men threatened Torres-Carrillo with a handgun in the parking lot of the Taco Bell restaurant at 2259 Harbor Blvd. Torres-Carrillo drove away, but the group apparently followed him, Cost said. At Wilson Street and Pomona Avenue, the group pulled alongside the car Torres-Carrillo was driving and someone shot him, Cost said. The victim’s car skidded and struck a parked vehicle.
Shortly afterward, Cost said, a Newport Beach police officer stopped a car matching the description of the suspects’ vehicle at Wallace Avenue and Shalamar Drive in Costa Mesa.
Arrested on suspicion of murder were Gustavo Soto, 27; Robert Soto, 35 and Raul Bravo, 24, all of Costa Mesa. A fourth suspect, a 17-year-old boy from Costa Mesa, was arrested Monday.
