Nottingham Elementary School in Norwalk has changed its name to Arturo A. Sanchez Elementary School.
Sanchez was a longtime volunteer and community activist who donated many hours to helping the school, according to Norwalk-La Mirada Unified School District officials. One of Sanchez’s accomplishments was founding the school’s Halloween parade, which he promoted citywide. It is now one of Norwalk’s largest celebrations and is called the Sanchez Halloween parade. Sanchez died in 1979.
A rededication ceremony will be held at 9 a.m. Sept. 16.
