PORT HUENEME : Council Members Given 10% Raise
- Share via
Port Hueneme City Council members voted unanimously Wednesday to give themselves a raise of about 10%, an amount allowed under state law.
The increase will boost the monthly stipend for each of the five council members from $379.50 to $418.40.
Councilman Dorill B. Wright said the raise is justified because “it is a relatively insignificant part of the budget.”
“It’s in line with legislation the state adopted,” Wright said, referring to the salary limits set by the state. The increase for all five council members will total about $2,300 in the coming year.
City employees received a 3% raise this year, City Manager Dick Velthoen said.
Public officeholders typically receive a nominal monthly allowance for attending meetings.
