Software Start-Up: State of the Art Inc., an accounting software company in Irvine, has produced its first software packages based on the popular graphics-oriented Windows system, a de facto standard for personal computers.

David Samuels, chief executive of State of the Art, said the new product is important because of the estimated 20 million PC users who are running Microsoft Corp.’s Windows software.

“We should see a significant impact on future sales because of this,” Samuels said. “We have a development project underway to launch new modules with accounting graphics for Windows.”

Samuels said the company will continue to support its line of software running under the DOS operating system. State of the Art’s Library Master for Windows sells for $395. The company expects to begin shipping it on Sept. 21.
