1991: 6-0 in league; reached CIF Southern Section finals, placing fourth in Division I-AA.
Key returners: Johnny Ochoa, Sr., all-county and CIF runner, league MVP; Julio Cordero, Jr., No. 3 runner in 1991, best of 15 minutes 35 seconds over three miles; Danny Garro, Jr., expected to fill third spot this year; Mario Vela, Sr., best of 15:40 as sophomore; Hector Ochoa, So., younger brother of Johnny, expected to be team’s No. 5 runner; Miguel Barcinas, Jr., traded off at No. 7; Jesse Penunuri, Jr., ran varsity and freshman/sophomore.
Key newcomers: Ricardo Ochoa, Fr., joins brothers Johnny and Hector; Jaime Jimenez, Fr., ran 1 1/2 miles in 8 minutes as an eighth-grader; Omar Cordero, Fr., brother of Julio, could be factor for seventh spot.
Outlook: Saddleback will be hard pressed in the Sea View League, which figures to be one of the toughest leagues in Orange County with Newport Harbor and Santa Margarita the other top teams. “We want to win league first of all,” Silva said.
