Tycoon’s Son Files for Jobless Benefits
LONDON — Kevin Maxwell, fighting financial and legal troubles after the collapse of his deceased father’s publishing empire, went Thursday to an unemployment office.
So is the son of tycoon Robert Maxwell getting jobless benefits?
“Not yet, anyway,” he said a week after a court declared him Britain’s biggest personal bankruptcy. Kevin Maxwell has debts of $798 million.
Maxwell’s efforts to sign up for unemployment benefits got off to a slow start, when he first went into the wrong government building and had to drive his silver Mercedes station wagon to another one about a mile away.
If Maxwell satisfies JobCentre staff that he qualifies for assistance, he would be eligible for up to $387 per week for himself, his wife and four children.
