Witnesses Sought in Hit-and-Run

FULLERTON — Police are seeking information about a hit-and-run driver who struck and critically injured an 11-year-old boy.

Rene Mora was riding his bicycle in the west crosswalk at the intersection of Valencia Drive and Magnolia Avenue at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday when he was struck by a car speeding east on Valencia, Investigator Tak Kim said.

“We only have one witness who has come forward, and all he was able to say was that the boy was hit by a car and it was moving very fast,” Kim said. “But that is a busy intersection. It was 7:30 at night. There were hundreds of people out there after the accident. Somebody must have been at the intersection when the accident occurred and saw something.”

He said the boy has been unconscious and unable to provide any information.

Kim said the car “must have sustained major damage to its front end.”

Mora, who suffered major head injuries, was taken to UCI Medical Center in Orange after the accident, where his condition was upgraded to stable Thursday afternoon.
