Three Area Players Advance at U.S. Open

Janet Lee of Rancho Palos Verdes ousted seventh-seeded Petra Kamstra of the Netherlands, 7-5, 6-1, to lead three South Bay players into the quarterfinals of the girls’ division of the U.S. Open at New York City on Thursday.
Nicole London of Rolling Hills Estates defeated sixth-seeded Rita Grande of Italy, 6-2, 7-6 (7-1), to join top-seeded Lindsay Davenport of Palos Verdes in the quarterfinals.
Davenport eliminated 15th-seeded Anne Mall, a finalist last year, 6-4, 6-1, and will play Lee today. London, seeded 11th, will meet fourth-seeded Larissa Schaerer of Paraguay.
