VENTURA : City Releasing Funds for Homeless Shelter

The Ventura City Council is scheduled to award $200,000 to the Salvation Army on Monday to help establish a homeless shelter in downtown Ventura where the organization now has offices.
The city agreed to spend Redevelopment Agency funds to help the nonprofit organization a year ago and is releasing the funds now so construction can begin, according to a city report.
The Salvation Army plans to renovate the facility at 155 S. Oak St. to house 41 people. The shelter will be a transitional home for families and single women, the report said. State and federal grants will supplement the cost of the project.
