WORLD IN BRIEF : IRAQ : Chemical Weapons Destruction Foreseen

From Times Staff and Wire Reports

A U.N. chemical weapons expert said he expects Iraq to begin destroying its stocks of nerve gas before the end of the month and stocks of mustard gas shortly thereafter. Briton Ron Manley, wrapping up a weeklong inspection visit, said two destruction plants at Muthana are complete. Manley said he would make a favorable report to the U.N. commission responsible for eliminating Iraq’s weapons of mass destruction under the terms of the Persian Gulf War cease-fire.
