Willis’ 166 Yards Help Sunny Hills Come Back to Win

LA MIRADA — Senior running back Jeff Willis ran for 166 yards in 19 carries to help Sunny Hills to a 21-10 victory over La Mirada in the season opener for both teams Friday at La Mirada High School.
La Mirada took a 10-0 lead early in the second quarter before Sunny Hills rallied.
Willis scored the first touchdown on a 62-yard run with 6 minutes 12 seconds left in the half. The Lancers took the lead on a 10-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Bobby Sunderland to tight end Brian Willmer with 5:35 left in the third quarter.
Sunny Hills’ final touchdown came on a one-yard run by Jacob Cuccia with 10 minutes left in the game. Cuccia, a senior, was a standout at Whittier Christian last season but transferred to Sunny Hills.
Sunny Hills had 234 yards rushing and the Lancers outgained La Mirada, 345 to 166, in total offense.
