BUENA PARK — Adjustments to its offense in the second half led to three Sean Bickel touchdowns and helped Brea-Olinda rally to defeat Buena Park, 23-8, at Buena Park High Friday night.
In the first half, Buena Park held Brea-Olinda to a net 78 yards. Twice, the Wildcats came within scoring range, but Jesse Anderson missed field goals from 30 and 37 yards.
Trailing, 8-0, with 7 minutes 56 seconds left in the third quarter, Bob Bryant, Travis Robinson and Nick Logoteta blocked a Buena Park punt out of the end zone for a safety.
Bickel, who carried 26 times for 125 of Brea’s 150 yards, put the Wildcats ahead, 9-8, on an eight-yard reception with 1:42 remaining in the third quarter. Quarterback Paul Chiotti, who completed eight of 14 passes for 88 yards, connected with Bickel again for an eight-yard touchdown with 4:42 left in the fourth quarter.
Bickel scored his third touchdown from the Buena Park one-yard line with 0:08 remaining in the game.
“After the first half, we made some adjustments in our offense and defense; mixed coverages and moved fronts,” said Brea Coach Jon Looney. “We shot ourselves in the foot in the first half, but the kids reacted and executed.”
