TECHNOLOGY : FileNet Moves Up Delivery Start Date of IBM Workstations

Compiled by Dean Takahashi / Times staff writer

FileNet Corp. in Costa Mesa says it will get an early start on the launch of its new IBM Series 6000 workstations that run its document-processing software.

The company said in May that it would deliver the computers beginning in the fourth quarter. But, thanks to positive test results, the company will begin shipping them this month.

The machines are expected to broaden FileNet’s presence in the corporate marketplace because of the wide acceptance of the International Business Machines model, which is a high-speed computer based on RISC, or the reduced instruction set computing standard architecture.

FileNet has installed more than 500 of its document-processing systems around the world, but the bulk of them were configured to run on its proprietary FileNet workstations.
