SAN FERNANDO VALLEY : Realtors Support New School District
- Share via
An organization of San Fernando Valley real estate agents has thrown its support behind the latest efforts to create a separate Valley school district.
The board of directors of the San Fernando Valley Board of Realtors last month voted to back a broad-based coalition seeking to break away from the mammoth Los Angeles Unified School District, coalition officials announced Monday.
The organization is the latest group to join a secessionist movement that was revived by a summer redistricting battle that erased one of two Valley-based seats on the Board of Education.
“The time has come to return our schools in the San Fernando Valley to local control,” Lorrie Griffey, president of the Board of Realtors, wrote in a letter. The Sept. 8 letter was addressed to the United Chambers of Commerce of the San Fernando Valley, one of the organizations leading the breakaway effort.
The Board of Realtors, which represents more than 8,000 Valley real estate agents, joins a number of parent organizations and lawmakers who have pledged to work toward carving the Valley out of the Los Angeles Unified School District.
