Biomerica Sells Interest: Medical company Biomerica said Tuesday that it has sold a 7% stake in its Lancer Orthodontics subsidiary to an investor group led by A.M. Razo & Co., an Orange County investment bank, for an undisclosed price. Lancer, based in Carlsbad, makes orthodontic appliances and supplies. Concern about the transmission of the AIDS virus has increased the demand for disposable dental supplies as well as duplicate equipment, said Douglas Miller, Lancer’s president. The company expects to use investor funds, he said, to expand its product line to meet increased demand. Biomerica, based in Newport Beach, develops and manufactures medical diagnostic products used to detect ulcers, Down’s syndrome, heart attacks, allergies, neuromuscular disorders and other diseases. It had revenue of $7.8 million for its latest fiscal year.
