Seniors Gabriel Anguiano and Aaron Flowers formed the heart of Artesia’s air show as they teamed up for 171 yards and five touchdowns to lead the Pioneers to a 49-21 rout of cross-town opponent Gahr. The five touchdowns were one shy of the CIF record for most touchdowns by a receiver in a single game. Anguiano had nine receptions, including one for an 80-yard touchdown. Flowers completed 26 of 35 passes for 426 yards and seven touchdowns, one shy of the CIF record for most touchdowns thrown in a single game. Flowers has thrown for 687 yards this year pushing his career total to 6,858, placing him fourth on the CIF list of career passing yardage. He is 2,324 yards away from the CIF record for most passing yards, and would have to average 291 yards a game to surpass the regular-season record of Todd Marinovich, now with now with Los Angeles Raiders.
Other top performers:
Craig Landry, the Life Christian running back carried the ball 17 times for 321 yards and scored three touchdowns. The Lions gained 736 yards in a 52-0 win over Twin Pines.
Jim Hunter, the wide receiver for the La Serna Lancers led the way as the Lancers won for the first time in nine games by defeating Keppel 31-3. Hunter caught six passes for 193 yards and three touchdowns. He also kicked all four of the Lancers’ PAT’s and was successful on a 32-yard field goal.
