FULLERTON : Muckenthaler Film Series Goes Far Out

Two films about other worlds will be shown outdoors Friday night as part of the Muckenthaler Cultural Center’s “Monsters by Moonlight” film series.
“Plan Nine From Outer Space,” which was released in 1959, was intended to have actor Bela Lugosi play the starring role as a man who dies and then is brought back to life by aliens.
But Lugosi himself died after two days of filming, so another actor took over the role, doubling as Lugosi by holding a cape over his face throughout the movie.
A short movie called “Scrappy’s Trip to Mars” will be shown with “Plan Nine.” It is a 1938 black-and-white cartoon about a dog who takes a rocket to Mars and goes to an alien bar.
Weather permitting, the screenings will begin at 8:30 p.m. at 1201 W. Malvern Ave. Tickets must be purchased in advance and cost $4 for students and center members, $3 for senior citizens and children under 12 and $5 for the general public.
