A search-and-rescue team on Sunday found the body of an 84-year-old Lockwood Valley man who apparently died while walking for help after his car broke down, authorities said.
The body of Fred Culbert, who was reported missing Saturday by his daughter, was found by Ventura County sheriff’s deputies in a dry creek bed about 15 miles from his home at 8:25 a.m., Deputy Coroner Jim Wingate said.
Culbert apparently died from natural causes.
Sheriff’s deputies began searching for Culbert after his daughter reported he had been missing for about a week. Culbert lived alone.
Deputies found Culbert’s disabled car caught on a rock on Lockwood Valley Road, about seven miles from where they found his body.
