The city has won first place in two categories in the City-County Communications & Marketing Assn.’s SAVVY awards competition held in August in San Francisco.
A video on the city’s Day Worker Job Center won in the video category.
In the marketing campaign category, “Future Brea . . . Shaping the Vision” community participation project was named the best entry.
City Manager Frank Benest accepted the awards on the city’s behalf.
Each year, the awards are presented to city and county governments for innovative and creative marketing efforts.
They are presented during the group’s annual national conference.
A total of 115 entries were submitted by agencies throughout the nation.
The Day Worker Job Center video was produced by the Brea Media Services Department to inform residents, clients and dayworkers about the innovative program.
City officials say the job center has helped alleviate the conflict between the community and immigrant dayworkers.
According to the center’s figures, there was a 54% placement rate for dayworkers over the past year.
The vision project was undertaken to gain community participation in formulating guidelines for the development or preservation of the unincorporated hillside and canyon area north of the city.
A vision document, which resulted from the project, will guide future City Councils on how to address political, developmental and environmental issues in the next 20 years.
Last year, the city won a SAVVY award for its customer service program and in 1990, for its voluntary curbside recycling program.
