TEMECULA, Calif. — Scores of residents in the rural hills and canyons at the San Diego-Riverside county line south of Temecula were evacuated Monday as a 1,400-acre fire consumed brush that had grown tall and thick for decades.
The evacuations were near the community of Rainbow. Six firefighters were injured protecting homes from the flames.
The fire was about 40% contained Monday and officials hoped to have it fully encircled by firefighters by 6 tonight.
