Glendale : Power Plant Open for Tours
Glendale will celebrate Public Power Week, beginning Sunday, with an open house through Oct. 10 at the city-owned Grayson Plant, 634 Bekins Way.
The public is invited to view the plant between 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Evening group and student tours can be arranged by calling Larry Moorehouse at (818) 548-2088.
The city built the power plant, which opened March 10, 1941, when it was found that Hoover Dam, the city’s previous source of power, could not provide enough electricity.
Demonstrations of utility pole climbing and safety, underground system switching procedures, and energy conservation will be demonstrated Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Public Service Corporate Yard, 800 Air Way.
All events are free.
