Police Investigating Shooting of Man

BUENA PARK — Homicide investigators were trying to determine why a Garden Grove man was fatally shot in the back early Wednesday.
Officers called just before 4 a.m. to Franklin Street and Kingman Avenue found the victim, Steven Charles Wainio, 36, on the ground, Sgt. Terry Branum said.
Wainio, a hairstylist and laborer, was taken to UCI Medical Center in Orange, where he died at 4:48 a.m., police said. The bullet had severed his spinal cord and pierced his lungs.
Witnesses told officers they saw a possible suspect leaving the scene in a brown four-door sedan, Branum said.
