A man shot on a San Diego sidewalk Tuesday died hours later, after a passing motorist had stopped to take him to a hospital, a police spokesman said.
Umberto Calderon, 22, of San Diego, was shot in the chest at 30th Street and Webster Avenue at 5:30 p.m., the spokesman said. Calderon was taken to UC San Diego Medical Center where he died at 6:18 p.m., according to a coroner’s report.
Witnesses told police they saw Calderon arguing with two men when the men suddenly ran away. As they ran one of the men turned and fired a shot from a handgun, striking Calderon.
