Top-seeded Steffi Graf and Conchita Martinez advanced to the quarterfinals of the Grand Prix women’s tournament at Leipzig, Germany, while Zina Garrison moved into the second round.
Graf needed 58 minutes to oust Larissa Savchenko-Neiland, 6-3, 6-3. Martinez outlasted Alexia Dechaume, 6-4, 3-6, 6-2. Garrison rallied to beat Jo Durie, 5-7, 6-1, 6-1.
