And Now, Cattle Made to Order

TOKYO — A Japanese ham and sausage manufacturer says it will give you no bull--unless you want one.
Itoham Foods says it has developed the genetic technology to provide for the birth of calves of a predetermined sex.
“We have worked on this project for two years and cattle gave birth this June exactly as predicted,” a company spokesman said.
The firm is a major meat vendor and operates a cattle ranch in Australia that is now expanding its capacity to 60,000 head.
Dairy farmers prefer cows, while food processors generally want bulls, industry officials said.
