SOUTHLAND ROUNDUP : Madlangbayan, Messal Lead Occidental Victory

Brian Madlangbayan and Erik Messal each scored two touchdowns as Occidental defeated Whittier, 34-6, in a Southern California Intercollegiate Conference game Saturday night at Occidental.
Madlangbayan gained 89 yards and scored on two one-yard runs. Messal gained 88 yards and scored on runs of 10 and 23 yards for the Tigers, who led, 14-0, at halftime.
Robert Perez gained 114 yards in 33 carries for Whittier.
Idaho 30, Cal State Northridge 7--Sophomore running back Sherriden May rushed for 129 yards and scored three touchdowns to lead the Vandals (4-0) over Northridge (2-3) in a nonconference game at Moscow, Ida.
San Diego 21, Cal Lutheran 20--Cal Lutheran missed a hurried field-goal attempt as time expired and lost at San Diego.
Tom Helmer blocked a San Diego punt with 18 seconds left, but the Kingsmen had no timeouts. Cal Lutheran tried a running play before the field-goal unit scrambled into position.
Ben Schuldheisz’s 34-yard attempt was wide left.
Menlo 33, Claremont 17--Menlo intercepted six passes and gained 500 yards in the nonconference victory at Claremont.
Vince Orlando rushed for 103 yards, Ryan Ferguson completed 13 of 35 passes for 270 yards and Curtis Moseley had six receptions for 120 yards for Menlo (3-1).
Claremont (0-3) has lost 13 consecutive games.
