A 19-year-old Eastside man, who escaped from custody after being booked for assault on a peace officer and auto theft, surrendered Monday with his attorney at his side.
Richard Herrera turned himself in about 11:20 a.m. at the downtown Hall of Justice, said sheriff’s spokeswoman Irma Becerra. He was booked for escape at the Men’s Central Jail. Herrera had initially been booked about 6 p.m. last Tuesday at the Temple sheriff’s station, Becerra said. A deputy left him handcuffed to a chain attached to a wall in the jail, but he slipped the cuffs and was discovered missing two hours later.
