School: Centennial High
Sport: Football
Position: Running Back/Defensive Back
Class: Senior
Ramseur carried the ball 14 times and gained 291 yards, including a 76-yard touchdown. He also intercepted two passes as the Apaches defeated Santa Monica, 20-14. The win evened Centennial’s record at 2-2. The two wins doubled the number of victories that Centennial recorded in last year’s 1-9 season. Coach Joe Hembrick said Ramseur’s success can be attributed to “his toughness and his vision on the field. He is also running behind a line which returns four starters. They pave the way for him.”
Other top performers:
Andy Law, Gahr water polo player, recorded six goals to lead Gahr to a 16-2 victory over Jordan of Long Beach. That brings his career total to 274, making him Gahr’s all-time scoring leader. He surpassed Howard Robinson, who graduated in 1988 with 268 goals.
Felipe Escartan of South Gate High kicked three field goals and two extra points against Locke. He kicked a 30-yarder and a 26-yarder in the second quarter. His final kick was a 45-yarder in the fourth quarter. His 11 points allowed the Rams to defeat Locke, 23-14, in a Southeastern Conference game.
