The City Council on Friday approved a $3-million payment to a woman left permanently disabled after being struck by a car in a crosswalk with no traffic signal.
Ana Medina, 22, suffered “multiple broken bones, including injuries to her spinal column” in the March 21 accident on Western Avenue at De Longpre Avenue in Hollywood, according to a Budget and Finance Committee report.
A Superior Court jury found the city 60% responsible for the accident and liable for $7 million. After several appeals, the amount was reduced to $3.1 million. The council unanimously approved the payment. The driver of the car settled with Medina for $50,000.
