WESTMINSTER — Junior quarterback Scott Bertoni threw four touchdown passes as Fountain Valley routed Ocean View, 47-0, in a Sunset League game Friday night at Westminster High.
Bertoni threw just 12 passes, completing eight, but four of the completions went for scores in a 15-minute span of the first half. Mark Ziemke caught scoring passes of 39 and 12 yards and Bryan Gail counted a 30-yard scoring pass among his four receptions. The Baron rushing attack was also effective; Fountain Valley (3-2, 2-0 in league) picked up 286 yards on the ground.
“We’ve got a lot of starters back, so I’m not surprised that we are 2-0 at this point,” said Fountain Valley Coach George Berg. “But it is still early to think about the playoffs--there’s a long road to go.”
The Baron defense shut the Seahawks down completely, allowing just 25 yards in the first half and 70 for the game. Ocean View (0-5, 0-2) did not cross midfield until the fourth quarter.
Three Fountain Valley running backs filled in for injured Jeremy Nicholson. Chuck Harcar picked up 130 yards and a touchdown, while brother John Harcar added 55 yards and a touchdown and Chris Booth gained 77 yards.
