A man with a hook stuck in his eye was rescued by the Coast Guard on Saturday and flown from a sportfishing vessel 110 miles south of San Diego, authorities said.
The incident happened about 5:30 p.m. aboard Pegasus, which is based in San Diego. Rob Slegers, 35, who lives in San Diego, was flown by helicopter to Mercy Hospital, where he underwent surgery Saturday night.
A spokeswoman for the hospital said late Saturday doctors removed the hook from Slegers’ eye, for which the long-range prognosis of full use is good.
