Hudson’s Grill Quarterly Profit Declines Sharply

Hudson’s Grill of America Inc. reported a sharp decline in its profit in the third quarter and nine months that ended Sept. 29, which the restaurant operator attributed to increased discounting and promotional costs combined with continued declining sales in Southern California.
In the third quarter, Ventura-based Hudson’s earned $20,470, down 89% from $188,186 a year earlier. Its sales were $4.82 million, compared to $4.84 million in the third quarter of 1991.
The company’s nine-month profit plunged 92%, to $273,287 from $3.36 million a year before. Its sales fell 18%, to $14.1 million from $17.2 million.
Hudson’s said its 1992 sales have fallen behind 1991 because of the sale of 11 Wendy’s restaurants and one specialty restaurant, and the closure of one Hudson’s Grill restaurant.
