A North Hollywood man, who made at least 12 U-turns and sideswiped several parked cars as he fled Los Angeles police in a stolen 1986 Yugo at speeds up to 45 m.p.h., has been arrested and charged with assault with a deadly weapon on a police officer, police said Monday.
Frank Gray, 25, was chased by Foothill Division officers for 17 minutes along Foothill Boulevard in Sylmar late Sunday afternoon after a woman in another car told police he was driving her stolen car, said Lt. David E. Baca, Foothill Division watch commander.
Baca said the pursuit, between Polk and Paxton streets, ended when Gray attempted to drive into a police officer as the officer emerged from his parked car, missing the officer and slamming into the police vehicle.
Gray was unarmed and offered no resistance to arrest, Baca said, adding that no one was injured.
